Tell us about your latest book.
My latest book, 'Beneath The Southern Cross' is set in Sydney and follows the generations of an English family first convict settlement through the wars, the Depressions, the Eighties Boom, the love, the hate, the lust, the envy, you name it, until the Olympics and the year 2000.
Which do you prefer - writing or acting?
Writing when it's my own novels (as opposed to formula television scripts) and acting when the roles are crash hot.
How hard a decision was it to leave Home & Away?
Very easy after 14 years.
How do you think Aussie soaps have changed since the "classic" soaps of 'Number 96', 'Sons and Daughters' etc, to today's 'Neighbours' and 'H&A'?
These days they are much more geared to the teenage audience.
What do you think of British soaps such as EastEnders and Coronation Street?
I admire them very much, but to be quite honest, I've not seen enough of them to make any in depth comment.
Which has been your favourite character that you have portrayed?
Vicki Stafford in The Box for four years, unfortunately not shown in the UK, and as Bette Davis always said "The bitches are the best roles" - she was right.
Do you keep in touch with anyone from the SAD cast?
Cornelia Frances remains a dear friend, although we're both so busy we sometimes don't get in touch for a while. And I recently did a theatre show with Rowena Wallace which was like old home week, we love working together. When Rowie and I chat we solve the problems of the world!
Why do you think Irene Fisher was so unlucky in love?!
Because she was up against Pat the Rat when she lusted after David, and Pat the Rat was far too cunning for her.
