Some years later, Myra moved to the US with her American husband Pat. While in America, she found roles on both stage and television. She had parts in West Side Story and The Pyjama Game on Broadway, and in the TV shows Bewitched, Land of the Giants and The Monkees.
In 1972 Myra and Pat, and their two small children, moved to New Zealand. While living there, she continued to be involved in the world of theatre. A few years later, the family moved to Australia, and in 1980 Myra secured the role of Laura Watkins in The Sullivans. Laura was the sister of resident busy body Ida Jessup. The siblings clashed frequently, but despite the tension, there was a deep bond of affection between them.
In the final years of her life, Myra was best known for her portrayal of Eileen Clarke, the mother of Des in Neighbours. Eileen's bossy and domineering nature belied her vulnerability and the sadness she felt over her failed marriage to Des's philandering father.
While working by day on Neighbours and by night in a stage production, Nunsense, Myra started to complain of back pain. She was suffering greatly by the time friends convinced her to see a doctor.
Her last public appearance was at the 1988 Logie Awards. By this time, Myra was wheelchair bound and obviously unwell, but still managed to appear glamorous and vibrant. Sadly, she died just two weeks later.
